Background

New Hope Presbyterian Church was using Planning Center’s Calendar to communicate upcoming events to its congregation. The church primarily linked to the calendar on their website. This meant that people had to log in to Planning Center to see the calendar.

Challenges

This approach was causing two main challenges. The first was the communication barrier for older members. As Shiloh put it: “This frustrated some of our older members since they didn’t want to be prompted to log in to a tool just to see upcoming events.” Additionally, the church lacked the flexibility to display a full calendar versus a public calendar, which limited the information they could easily share. 

They needed a solution that didn’t require technical skills or coding knowledge. Shiloh told us: “I am not a coder by any means, and I was looking for a way to easily embed our Church Center Calendar right into our website.”

Solution

New Hope Presbyterian Church became a Display.Church partner. Display.Church is a ‘no coding required’ app. It allows New Hope to easily embed their Planning Center Calendar into their website without requiring members to log in. This provides them with more control over the information they share, streamlining communication within the congregation, and making it easier for members to stay informed about upcoming events. 

Ease of Use: Shiloh Lawrence, the Administrative Assistant, who does not have a background in coding, found Display.Church incredibly easy to use. This ease of use was critical in ensuring that the church could maintain and update their event calendar without external help.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, New Hope Presbyterian Church plans to explore additional features within Display.Church to further enhance their event communication. Specifically, they are interested in an option to show the specific rooms and resources in use for each event or event series. This would provide even more detailed information for their members and help with the overall organization.

Wishlist

Shiloh mentioned two potential improvements for Display.Church:

1. Room/Resource Display: “ I’d like an option to show the specific room / resources in use for an event / event series”
2. **Theme Customization**: “I think having a few different-colored and different-sized “default” themes (in addition to keeping the customization that’s currently available) would help people who want something a bit different but may be short on time.”
