Last summer (June 2024), Display.Church debuted an important innovation: Featured Highlights. Grace Fellowship is a great example of this innovation in action. Plus, their website has got worthwhile tips to improve your communication and outreach.
Let’s get into it…
Tip #1: Make your events easy to find.
We cannot say this often enough: The quicker and easier it is for people to find your events, the better the engagement rate. In other words, if they don’t know what’s going on, they can’t participate.
It’s common for churches to put a link to their Events or Calendar page in their header. And Grace Fellowship is no exception.

However, we know that people scroll your Home Page. So, why not put a link there, too? When it’s obvious, they don’t have to look for it.

Tip #2: Tell your viewers how to navigate your calendar views.
Notice the “Click on the event to learn more” message? I think this is the first time I have seen this on one of our partner’s webpages.

True, we are in the digital age. Most of us are familiar with how to navigate websites: scrolling, clicking, swiping. But why not reduce the time it takes for your viewers to figure out which one works?
When a website is user-friendly, people tend to hang around and investigate it more.
Main event: Featured Highlights
We know churches intimately. We’ve attended them, been part of their management teams and worked with them for many years. So, we know how much time and effort each event takes. And how important it is for each event to be well-attended.
Featured Highlights is an eye-catching way to market a selection of events. Highlighting events increases both outreach and participation.
Above their weekly calendar view, Grace Fellowship has displayed a row of Featured Events. They have chosen the Tiles option of thumbnail images.

As instructed, viewers simply click on the thumbnail of the event which interests them. They get a pop-up with more information.

Grace Fellowship has chosen to feature every event on their church calendar. However, you can use the Display.Church filtering options to show only a selection of events. For example: men’s events, events at a certain campus, morning events. Or even one special, big event such as Spring Family Festival.
In addition, there are three other Featured Highlights display options: Cards (Grid), Cards (List), and Slider. Read more about featured highlights here.
